How the CFN helps Designers
The Carbon Farm Network empowers designers by providing access to high-quality, regenerative fiber grown and processed right here in our region. Our cooperative sourcing model is designed specifically for small brands, offering accessible quantities without the pressure of traditional minimum order quantities. We prioritize ecological equity - our membership fee is based on your yarn order, and how much you are extracting form the land. We believe that as a brand’s footprint on the land grows, so should its investment in the soil. Rather than giving volume breaks for making more yarn, we together share the risk and distribute the cost of production. This ensures that every purchase directly supports the restorative practices on our regional farmlands.
The Yarn
Through the CFN, we create one type of yarn in three natural colors: ivory, brown, and gray. The fiber is sourced from small sheep and alpaca growers all across NYS that participate in our climate beneficial program—to learn more on that, please visit the resources for farmers page.
The fiber is a 50/50 wool-alpaca blend single yarn 2000YPP —soft, durable, and very versatile for both accessories and full garments. The fiber is spun at American Woolen Mill, which creates this beautiful and airy woolen finish.
