How the CFN helps Designers

The Carbon Farm Network empowers designers by providing access to high-quality, regenerative fiber grown and processed right here in our region. Our unique sourcing model is designed specifically for small brands, offering accessible quantities without the pressure of traditional bulk pricing.

We prioritize ecological equity - our pricing is strictly proportional to your order. We believe that as a brand’s footprint on the land grows, so should its investment in the soil. By eliminating volume discounts, we ensure that every purchase directly supports the restorative practices of our local farmers.

The Yarn

Through the CFN, we create one type of yarn in three natural colors: ivory, brown, and gray. The fiber is sourced from small sheep and alpaca growers all across NYS that participate in our climate beneficial program—to learn more on that, please visit the resources for farmers page.

The fiber is a 50/50 wool-alpaca blend—soft, durable, and very versatile for both accessories and full garments. The fiber is processed at ____________ and spun at American Woolen Mill, which creates this beautiful and airy woolen finish.

  • "I joined the CFN because I wanted to source fiber that actually made a positive impact on the land and everyone involved in the process from the farmer to the consumer. "

    —Heather, Vincent James

  • "I joined the Carbon Farm Network because it was abundantly clear how much care and effort has gone into monitoring soil health, supporting flock management, educating farmers on what it takes to grow quality fiber, and then turning those beautiful fibers into remarkable yarns and products. This is the exact work we need to do not only to take better care of our planet, but also to create garments with a soul and a story.."

    —Chris, First Principles

  • "We joined the Carbon Farm Network to build the most localized knit-wear line we thought was possible. We're pleased that this effort has delivered incredible products while reducing our company's impact on the environment. ."

    —Daniel, Adirondack Field

  • "I chose CFN over independent sourcing because I appreciate Laura’s wealth of knowledge, passion and conviction. She (and CFN) made it easier for me to break in as a small independent designer."

    —Heather, Vincent James

  • "We didn't realize that it was possible to make clothes using an almost entirely New York-based supply chain.  This has certainly changed our approach to knitwear."

    —Daniel, Adirondack Field

  • "To know that my investment is going towards such important work is huge peace of mind, and inspires me to design garments that reflect all of the love and stewardship that goes into the yarns we use."

    —Chris, First Principles
